Stephanie Ho-Saar Ahuvia Piano Duo, founded in 2002, will present a recital - A Midsummer Night’s Dream by Mendellssohn (200th anniversary celebration) along with selections of Bach, Frescobaldi and Hungarian composer Kurtag’s emotional miniatures. Interested in programming a variety of music, the duo has been exploring Bach cantata and organ prelude and fugue among others. They are also deeply committed to playing new music. While pursuing Graduate Performance Diplomas at the Peabody Institute, the couples were inspired by Leon Fleisher to explore Beethoven String Quartets in duo setting. They were also mentored by Julian Martin and Boris Slutsky. They have received many grants and awards. BSO Concertmaster Jonathan Carney begins his eighth season with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra after twelve seasons in the same position with London's Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Born in New Jersey, Jonathan Carney hails from a musical family with all six members of this family having graduated from the Juilliard School in New York. After completing his studies with Ivan Galamian and Christine Dethier, he was awarded a Leverhulme Fellowship to continue his studies in London at the Royal College of Music. He has made a number of recordings, including concertos by Mozart, Vivaldi and Nielsen, sonatas by Brahms, Beethoven and Franck, and a disc of virtuoso works with his mother Gloria Carney as pianist. His violin is the 1687 Stradivarius, the Mercur-Avery on which he uses "Vision" strings by Thomastik-Infeld.
Li-Ly Chang has received many awards and grants and has given recitals and performed concertos in Asia, Europe and the U.S. Her teachers include Sacha Gorodnitzki, Leon Fleisher, Sequeira Costa, Fernando Laires, Walter Hautzig and Jack Winerock. Her performance includes the Dame Myra Hess Series, Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center, Roosevelt Hall, Trinity Church Series, Shriver Hall and Strathmore Hall. She has given master classes and lecture recitals in Conventions, Univ, & Conservatory. Recently she has performed at the State Department in Washington DC, the World Piano Pedagogy Conference in Orlando, Florida, has judged in the Chamber Music Foundation of New England in Carnegie Hall and American Asian Music Society in New Jersey. She served on the faculty of the premiere Washington International Piano Festival in 2009. . She was a music panelist for the Maryland State Arts Council and is the Director of the International Young Artist Piano Competition. She is an expert partner in the Poulenc Violin Sonata; She played with the Monumental Brass Quintet with poise and considerable skill. The Ensemble showed expert technique, emotional expressiveness and a firm sense of partnership. " The Washington Post. Cellist Pei Lu is the recipient of many awards and honors including the second prize of the National Cello Competition in China and the Gregor Piatigorsky Award from the Peabody Conservatory of Music. She has performed in Europe, Asia and the East and West Coasts of the United States. She also toured in the Middle East, England, Ireland, Northern Ireland and China with Apple Hill Chamber Players. Ms. Lu began her musical education at the Xian Conservatory of Music where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Cello Performance. Upon her arrival in the United States, Ms. Lu completed the Master’s Degree and the most prestigious Artist Diploma in Cello Performance at the Peabody Conservatory of Music where she studied with Professor Stephen Kates.

Violinist Hidetaro Suzuki, was concertmaster of the Quebec symphony for 15 years and the Indianapolis Symphony for 27 years. Pianist, Zeyda Ruga Suzuki, graduated from the Havana’s Municipal Conservatory and the Curtis Institute where she was a pupil of Rudolf Serkin. She was the department head of chamber music at Quebec’s Liaval University.
Sheldon Lampert, violist, graduated from Curtis Institute. He taught at Columbia Union College and Shenandoah Conservatory. Robert Newkirk, cellist, studied with Leonard Rose at the Curtis Institute. He served as a chair of the string committee at the Catholic University of America until 2008. Guitarist Phil Mathieu, presents a unique combination of arrangements featuring romantic Spanish folk songs, impressionistic melodies of Faure, fiery Spanish pieces by Albeniz, haunting music by A. Piazzola and Beethoven. Phil is a well versed musician, teacher, composer and arranger. He made many recordings and was a member of the prestigious Washington Guitar Quintet led by Charlie Byrd. Carolyn Oh, flute, is on the faculty of Montgomery College. She had her Bachelor and Master from Peabody and Doctorate from Catholic University of America. Kerry Van Lannen, cello, has been a performer, teacher in D.C. area since 1985. She serves on the faculty of National Philharmonic Summer Institute.
